The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists in collaboration with McGill University published the "National Blueprint for Injury Prevention in Older Drivers" today, a landmark report which identifies and encourages a comprehensive strategy to enhance the capacity of older adults to maintain their fitness to drive for as long as possible. According to this report, the leading cause of accidental death for Canadians between the ages of 65 and 75 years old is driving related. Community Therapists has provided Functional Driving Evaluations and both on and off road driver remediation services for older drivers for over 10 years. This current report underscores the need for continued access to specialized assessment and rehabilitation services to enable older drivers to maintain their participation in this often essential activity of daily living.
