Jacquie-Riske-AllanJacquie-Riske-AllanCommunity Therapists is pleased to announce that Jacquie Riske was awarded the Fraser Health Authority Acquired Brain Injury Services award for outstanding rehabilitation contribution for her work with an ABIS client. For those that attended the award ceremony on June 17, the description of the impact Jacquie made in helping her client achieve greater function in the community was amazing. With this recent award, CTI is proud to have been recognized a total of 3 times over the past 4 years for outstanding contributions in the area of brain injury rehabilitation by our service partner, the Fraser Health Authority ABIP. Kudos to Jacquie!

2013 Bowl for Big Brothers Classic Print

On March 22, 2013 Community Therapists' team pulled out their best 80s outfits and participated in the Bowl for Big Brothers Classic for the second year in a row.  The event was held at REVS and featured many other organizations such as JR FM, London Drugs and Scotiabank. CTI was successful in exceeding our fundraising goal – raising a total of $617 to support mentoring programs for at-risk children.  Thanks to everyone that came out and dressed up!

Salim Janmohamed Awarded Clinical Faculty Appointment Print

Congratulations to Salim Janmohamed, Managing Director, on his Clinical Faculty Appointment with the Department of OS&OT at UBC. Salim’s appointment follows several years of contribution to the Department including preceptorship, guest speaking, serving as a teaching assistant for Ergonomics, hosting clinic visits for students, admissions committee membership as well as his role as the lead instructor for Vocational Rehabilitation in the Master of OT program. Salim has provided instruction in this course for 5 years (4 consecutive) and is slated to lead the course again in 2014. Way to go Salim!

Through the Community for Everyone Awards event held during Brain Injury Awareness month, the Fraser Health-Acquired Brain Injury Services (ABIS) highlighted the positive work that is being done to support the participation of people with brain injuries in the community.
Ana Flores Registered as CPD Provider with Law Society of BC Print

We are pleased to announce that Ana Flores was recently registered as a Continuing Professional Development Provider for the Law Society of BC. With this recognition, Ana's Cost of Future Care seminar now qualifies for CPD credits which lawyers are required to complete in order to maintain membership with this regulatory body. Congrats Ana!

Community Therapists contributes to a number of charities, causes and societies on a yearly basis such as the Fraser Valley Brain Injury Association, The Salvation Army and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In March 2012, Community Therapists participated in the Bowl for Big Brothers Fiesta and raised funds that support at-risk children in the community. Excellent work team!
Amanda Ho Featured in OTLine Newsletter Print

Occupational Therapist Amanda Ho is a Certified Hand Therapist that put her skills to good use when the devastating earthquake hit Haiti on January 12th, 2010. Amanda has visited the Caribbean Island twice to offer hand therapy to  patients and her experience was documented in an article featured in the Winter 2011 BCSOT OTLine Newsletter (page 8).  Kudos to Amanda on all your hard work!

Sue and Salim Receiving Plaque

Through the efforts of staff who have served as clinical instructors, preceptors and speakers in the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) Program, Community Therapists was recently recognized by the UBC Faculty of Medicine with a plaque to acknowledge and thank our practice for this contribution. Team members who have shared their time and expertise with students include Erin Potts, Laila Karmali, Denise Edwards, Sue Reil, Monita Khaira, Liz McIver and Salim Janmohamed. Sue Reil and Salim Janmohamed continue to serve as clinical instructors in the program in the areas of Driver Rehabilitation and Vocational Rehabilitation.
