About Us
Community Therapists, also known as CTI, was founded in 1989 by occupational therapist, Linda Hirsekorn. We began by providing community based occupational therapy for Insurance Corporation of BC clients who had experienced catastrophic injuries. Over time, our practice has grown and evolved in response to the changing needs of the institutions we serve and their clients.
We now provide a range of assessment and treatment services for clients experiencing physical, cognitive, developmental and psychological disabilities. We provide occupational therapy, physiotherapy, rehabilitation assistant services as well as psychology and speech-language therapy delivered by our service partners.
Our services are delivered in community settings (e.g. client homes, community centres), our clinics, service partner offices and residential care facilities. We serve the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, Sea to Sky region, Victoria, Nanaimo and the Gulf Islands with our team of over 70 healthcare and administrative personnel.
Clients & Customers
Our clients range from young children to seniors. They have conditions or injuries which limit their ability to function fully including acquired brain injury/stroke, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injury, depression, chronic diseases and other medical problems. We currently see more than 1000 new clients each year.
Most of our clients obtain guidance about their healthcare requirements as well as financial support for the services we provide from third parties (our customers). Our services are also funded by most extended health plans and many clients self-refer or are referred to us by their physician. Our customers include:
Insurance Companies Government Agencies Government Ministries Employers Unions Law firms Health Authorities Residential Care Facilities Group Homes Disability Service Associations Employment Support Organizations Non Profit Societies Private Individuals (parents & family)
Mission & Values
Our mission is to provide evidence based assessment and treatment services which enable our clients to participate more fully in their daily lives. We do this by engaging our clients in programs that transfer skills acquired to real life settings that matter to them.
Our clinical and business practices are guided by the following core values:
Accountability
We support this value by monitoring our results and outcomes and reporting them back to our staff and customers. We measure change in functioning, client satisfaction and program costs to make sure we are delivering the results we promise and using customer resources responsibly.
Respect
Our clients are part of the rehabilitation process. Their involvement in designing an effective program is vital to our success. Our leadership style promotes inclusiveness and team members actively shape our policies, procedures and innovations to our practice.
Fairness
We regularly review our policies, prices, and wages to ensure fair dealing with clients, customers and our staff.
Evidence Based Practices
Designated practice leaders regularly review scientific papers on rehabilitation and attend conferences to expand our knowledge base in our core practice groups. This information is shared in our monthly meetings and integrated into our practice through an ongoing process of evidence review, collegial discussion and action.
Continuous Improvement
We strive to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of our services. We support this by funding continuing education, mentorship for staff, and a comprehensive quality assurance program. We also take client, customer and employee feedback seriously and use this information to improve our services.
Why choose Community Therapists?
Proven Track Record
We have provided innovative rehabilitation programs since 1989. To date, we have assisted more than 10,000 clients in achieving better function in their everyday lives. We are a preferred service provider to several organizations including insurers and health authorities.
Service Continuity
Our treatment programs and services span the entire rehabilitation continuum. Often the same therapist that facilitates the client’s transition from hospital to home can assist with the return-to-work or school process.
Multi-disciplinary Practice
As a multidisciplinary practice, we can often meet the full range of a client’s rehabilitation requirements, eliminating the need for multiple referrals and providers. This helps our customers save time and reduce costs and allows our clients to benefit from a well coordinated program.
Customized Programs
Our services are tailored to each client’s needs. Instead of delivering services in a group format, we provide treatment on a 1:1 basis. This enables us to more effectively target areas requiring improvement.
Quick Response
Our healthcare system is strained and hospitals struggle to discharge patients with ample notice. We are able to schedule home or hospital visits on short notice to ensure the transition to home is safe.
Technology Integration
We have developed a comprehensive information management system that provides our clinicians with timely reports on utilization of therapy hours, client roster and outcomes. This enables us to deliver results orientated programs within the budget allocated for each client.
Quality Assurance Program
We maintain a comprehensive program that includes staff training, ongoing mentorship and quality review of clinical reports. This ensures all clinical services and documentation meet the highest standard. Our mentors are experts in their respective fields and have been retained as expert witnesses, consultants for regulatory bodies and teachers for university programs in rehabilitation.
